As we change seasons and prepare for Winter and Christmas (sorry, is it too early to bring up the C word?) some of us like to give our homes a deep clean and an updated look. You’re sick of looking at the same furniture and bare walls but redecorating can be costly and investing in a complete make-over might just be too expensive.

Luckily for you, we have come up with our 5 top tips on how to decorate your house on a budget. You won’t have to dig deep or break into savings, but you’ll be happy with a fresh, updated look just in time for the festive season.

Redecorating on a budget is obviously different to a complete make-over and you should keep a few things in mind. Don’t concentrate on changing everything in the room. Your goal should be to keep as much as you can and make the stuff you already have look like new pieces. Let’s get into our top 5 tips.

  1. DIY

Forget about expensive contractors or painters and do the work yourself – you might just surprise yourself at how good you are!

Ask your friends and family for help, I’m sure there will be someone who knows what they are doing. You’ll save a small fortune in the long run. Not only will you save money, but you’ll feel super proud showing off your latest DIY project when people come around to visit.

  1. Declutter and rearrange

A really simple but effective tip. A quick rearrange in the living room or bedroom could create so much more space and change the entire layout of the room. You can change the look and feel of a room significantly by rearranging the furniture. Open up the room and create as much space as possible by getting rid of any unnecessary tables or decorations.

  1. Focus on details

Sometimes, it’s all about the details. It’s incredible how much a small change can make in a room. Instead of focusing on larger, expensive pieces of furniture, think about changing the hardware or accessories like cushions or a large throw in the living room. You’ll inject some new life into the room and won’t break the bank.

This tip works particularly well in the kitchen. You could change the taps, the handles on all the cupboard doors and add some new appliances for a fresh new look.

  1. Artwork

Artwork doesn’t have to be expensive, especially when you do it yourself! You can really bring a room to life with some sort of artwork hanging on the walls. It gives you the chance to add some of your own personality into the room and put your own stamp on your home.

You can pick up poster prints from online for next to nothing and add a frame yourself. You don’t just have to stop at poster prints though. The pages of a high-fashion campaign could look well framed together in a collage style, or pieces of patterned fabric, wallpaper or wrapping paper that matches your décor.

  1. A lick of paint

A fresh coat of paint can work wonders on any room in your home. It’s one of the cheapest ways to inject some life into any space. If the room is currently a neutral colour, you can add some colour and paint an accent wall. In the same way, you could rip down old wallpaper and create a less cluttered space.

If you don’t fancy painting the entire room or even one wall for that matter, you could just paint finished in the room. Update your woodwork with a fresh coat of varnish or new colours.
